Introducing the Heroes

March 31, 2008 · 5 Comments

First, I would like to address a comment that was made on my previous post.  Apparently, I set the bar too high in my first post and now expectations are high from now on for all posts to come.  I don’t like pressure and I hate expectations.  Seek to fulfill your high expectations elsewhere.  Now on to the heroes.small.jpg

People surrounding us exist to bring awareness to the realities of the world we live in.  In my opinion, which isn’t worth much, people fall into two major categories.  One displays traits of the Lord’s grace and patience (Jesus, Mother Teresa, Bono, the guy who plays the Mac on those Mac vs. PC commercials).  The other group portrays the falleness and depravity of mankind (Jihad, Ron Burgundy, that guy that sells oxy-clean).

Difficulties in life seem to occur just as often as the pleasures.  If this isn’t the case for you, one – you’re probably annoying, and two – it’s only a matter of time until you are on the receiving end of assistance and grace.  Personally, I believe that a large part of my suffering has already happened (if not I must really be in for it).  And during these times, aside from direct communication with God through prayer, community drove my perserverance.  The people we surround ourselves with develop our character and create self-awareness.

The men pictured here make up a specific group of my community that I call “The Heroes”.  To the outside world, they are nothing special.  They aren’t extremely attractive (except for Trey).  They aren’t famous.  They aren’t rich.  And you wouldn’t give them a second glance when passing on the street (except for maybe Zach because he has really small hands – seriously they are really small).

But for my soul, the heroes are absolutely essential!  A few of them write and I put links up to the right of this post to their thoughts.  Each man brings unique perspective and opinion that has assisted me through suffering.  You can’t put a price on that (well, depends on how much you offer really).

I once heard it said that “to the world, you may just be one person, but to that one person, you may be the world”.

Surround yourself with Godly men and women.  If you read these posts, expect to hear a lot about these men, for their importance in my pursuit of Christ-likeness cannot be overstated.

“First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for [the heroes], because your faith is being proclaimed throughout the whole world” Romans 1:8

(seriously though, make me an offer. . .all things have a price)

There is no one more annoying than the “oxy clean” guy! I loved the post seth. Community is special, essential, and rare. Like Chandler says, ‘It must be fought for.’ It’s not easy and it’s not cheap. It’s grueling having to week in and week out carve out time for friendship, buts it so worth it!

Thanks for reminding us of this essential new testament practice.

    Seek the Kingdom,
    Jon

    Dude, you’re hilarious! Great post!

The path to Christlikeness is forged in the fires of community.

I was laughing hard at the oxy clean comment. WHO IS THAT GUY? AND why don’t they know how annoying he is? I actually REFUSE to buy any product he promotes. It’s a moral stance I refuse to budge on.

Community rocks. And sucks. Ha. Love the thoughts brother. Keep at it!

Seth, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog thus far, but you’re really going to have to pick up the pace. No more of this 2 entries in 8 days ridiculousness! I’ll let you get by with a 4 per week minimum. No less. Well, now that I’m finished reprimanding you, (it’s only because I care) I would like to make an actual comment about the real topic of discussion…community. I think you, as well as the rest of the “heroes”, are an extremely lucky bunch! I’m always telling Jon, my husband, the cute guy in the green shirt (for those of you who don’t know us) that y’all are so fortunate to have a group of friends who challenge each other and help to make real growth in Christ and life a priority! I applaud the heroes for their commitment and true love for each other! I pray that I will one day find a similar support system; my own bonded community. If only girls didn’t make everything so freaking complicated!

You wanted a comment and I wrote a short novel. Totally my style! Sorry.

    -Kori
